Growing up in East Idaho, Erik learned the value of hard work at an early age. He started his first business as a teenager and grew to love serving his customers and building a business. In college, Erik studied accounting so he could help other business owners grow successful businesses. In his professional career, Erik has been able to serve many clients through streamlining their tax processes and identifying opportunities for tax savings.

Erik started with Cook Martin Poulson in August of 2019. Prior to Cook Martin Poulson, Erik worked for KPMG in Anchorage and Salt Lake for three and a half years. From there Erik did nine months as a controller before moving back to public accounting with PwC in Salt Lake City for four years.

Erik is an experienced tax professional with a demonstrated history of working in the accounting industry. Over his career, Erik has broad exposure to many accounting and tax issues. He has worked closely with clients that ranged from large publicly traded corporations, corporations in their Initial Public Offering (IPO) and corporations working towards their IPO. Additionally, Erik has worked with operating partnerships, private equity partnerships, S-corporations, high net worth individuals, and trusts.

In working with these clients Erik has helped guide clients through difficult transactions and helped them successfully navigate their tax compliance. Erik has developed expertise in federal income tax, corporate and partnership taxation, accounting, tax research, multi-state tax issues, partnership M&A, deferred income taxes, tax provisions and in international income tax reporting.

Erik is married and has five children. In the spring and early summer, you will find Erik coaching his two older boys’ baseball team. The rest of the year, Erik will be sitting on the sideline for various basketball, football, and soccer games. Erik loves being outside, especially if he is camping, hiking or hunting. Erik has said many times, that if he wasn’t a CPA, his chosen career would be farming or construction.
